CATTARAUGUS/ALLEGANY TERRITORIES – SENECA NATION OF INDIANS – SCMC, LLC, a construction management firm and subsidiary of Seneca Holdings, LLC, was awarded a multi-million dollar contract to build the first phase of the National Wild Turkey Federation’s (NWTF) new shooting complex and outdoor education center adjacent to the organization’s headquarters in Edgefield, South Carolina. Seneca Holdings, LLC is a business enterprise of the Seneca Nation of Indians.
The NWTF center will unfold on 700 acres in multiple phases, beginning with a world-class shooting complex; the Roundhouse, a 6,000-square-foot outdoor education center and pro shop; an 8,400-square-foot pavilion with wildlife observation decks and areas for outdoor conservation training.
“It’s an honor for us to have been chosen to build this dynamic addition to the NWTF campus,” said Steve Martin, president, SCMC, LLC. “Our construction expertise is perfectly matched for this type of project, bringing LEED® development principals and construction management efficiency and environmental planning to the master plan. In essence, we are helping the NWTF carry out its goals of saving critical wildlife habitat and our country’s hunting heritage.”
Founded in 1973, the NWTF is dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our country’s hunting heritage. Phase One completion is slated for December 2014. Additional phases will be scheduled over the next several years and may include construction of a 200-person-capacity conference center for training, education and fundraising, and overnight accommodations for NWTF volunteers and partners to engage in organizational activities.
“Our vision is to have the premier shooting complex and outdoor educational center in the country by the end of the decade,” said George Thornton, NWTF Chief Executive Officer. “Each phase, each building, each activity will help us introduce others to the hunting and shooting sports by encouraging and demonstrating all aspects of the North American Model of Conservation – shooting, hunting, habitat management, volunteer recruitment and education.”
The project was recently unveiled at the NWTF’s 38th Annual Convention and Sport Show in Nashville, Tenn.
